BTS announced that it would not submit ARIRANG or its songs for the 2027 Grammys.
That fact does not by itself say whether the group will attend, perform, boycott future
awards, or appear on a ballot through some unreported route.
This article does one narrower job: it places the July announcement on the Recording Academy's published 2027 calendar and separates four stages that are often collapsed in headlines—entry, screening, nomination, and attendance. Sources were checked on September 5, 2026. The private Grammy entry system was not accessed, and no Instagram story was archived independently by What the Korea.
The strongest public record is an announced non-submission
On July 29, the Associated Press reported that all seven BTS members posted the same note and said they would not submit the album or its songs. AP preserved the central message: the members wanted the music heard without division by region or language. AP also reported that a BTS representative gave no additional explanation. That evidence supports announced non-submission. It does not support a more detailed claim that BTS rejected one particular placement offer, withdrew after nomination, or refused to attend the February ceremony. The timing followed the creation of Best Asian Pop Music Performance, but timing alone cannot establish a sole motive.
There is also a source limitation worth making visible. The seven Instagram stories were ephemeral first-party posts; this review relies on AP's report of them rather than a WTK capture of the original stories. The article therefore attributes the wording to the AP record instead of presenting a reconstructed screenshot as primary evidence.
Four different statuses, not one word called “skip”

The Academy says registered media companies and eligible Academy members can enter work during the Online Entry Process. This workflow is why “did not submit,” “was not nominated,” “withdrew,” and “did not attend” are not interchangeable. In Korean coverage, chulpum (출품) is the useful term to look for when the issue is entry rather than attendance.
September 5 snapshot of the 2027 calendar
The Academy's 2027 guide gives the following sequence. The relative status column is WTK's comparison of those published dates with the September 5 review date; it is not a leak from the voting system.

The Academy's 2027 submission guide also contains an internal wording inconsistency: one line under the 2027 key dates says the eligibility period qualifies work for the “2026 Grammys.” The surrounding heading, entry instructions, dates, and nominee announcement all say 2027. WTK treats that isolated year as unresolved page copy rather than silently correcting an official quotation.
The practical conclusion on September 5 is limited: the entry window has closed, while voting and nominations are still future events. A public list of every submitted recording was not located in the reviewed Academy pages, so the BTS announcement should not be rewritten as an independent audit of the private database.
What the Asian pop rule actually says
The Academy announced Best Asian Pop Music Performance on June 16. Its published criteria describe vocal singles or tracks associated with Asian markets, including K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop, with meaningful use of one or more Asian languages. Academy announcement
The more detailed update says musical style—not performer ethnicity or nationality—controls eligibility. It also says entirely English recordings are ineligible for this category but remain eligible in other appropriate categories. None of those published rules proves which category ARIRANG would have received. Category
placement occurs after an entry is reviewed. Since the reviewed record does not contain an
ARIRANG entry or screening decision, this article does not claim that the Academy assigned
the album or a song to Best Asian Pop Music Performance.
General Field does not mean only four categories in 2027
The prior article called Album, Record, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist the four General Field categories. The Academy's current awards-process page instead lists six: those four plus Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, and Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical. That is a voting-field description, not a claim that every artist or release is eligible for all six.

The safe reading is therefore procedural: the new category does not automatically fence an
eligible work out of every General Field category. It is not proof that ARIRANG would have
qualified, been entered, or been nominated in any named category.
What can be checked next
On or after November 16, the nominee list can answer whether BTS appears as a nominee in some capacity; it cannot retroactively reveal every private entry decision or the members' complete motives. Attendance and performance require separate event announcements closer to February 7.
